Collection 16 BRIGADE

The 16th Separate Air Force Brigade took on the style of the formation of the US aviation brigades, and so it is formed according to the model of the brigades of the United States and some other NATO member countries. The brigade became the successor of the 199th regiment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which after the collapse of the USSR is subordinate to the troops of Ukraine, and is stationed in Brody, Lviv region.

The brigade performs not only combat missions. From 1995 to 2012 it also had been participating in UN peacekeeping missions.

That was not the only thing they excelled in. Since 1996, the brigade’s helicopters have participated in multinational trainings under the Partnership for Peace program.

In 2009 the Brigade received a laurel branch, as it was recognized one of the best aviation units of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Brigade consists of 7 sniper pilots, 12 first-class military pilots; it has conducted 30 flight shifts, almost half of which were in difficult weather conditions and at night. Today conquer the sky on Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters of various modifications.
